2DM closes investment round with CBMM, Niobium global leader

Singapore – November 21st, 2019 – 2D Materials Pte Ltd announced today it has signed a contract with CBMM, the world’s leading company for niobium products and technology, securing funding to accelerate the development of new applications for its high performance graphene, and to bring its technology to a commercial scale. Additionally, this investment enables CBMM to become a minority shareholder of 2DM.

Protagonist among 2D materials, 2DM already produces graphene in its pilot plant and now will scale it up 10 times, to a commercial plant, making its products widely available to customers. Graphene is a one atom thick layer of pure carbon in hexagonal arrangement, which is one million times thinner than paper. It is the strongest material ever measured. The material is recognized for its capabilities as an energy conductor, thermal properties, strength, and lightness, among other features that position it as one of the most promising materials for the next decade. It can be presented as a thin film, or as a flake, in the form of a black powder, which is the case of 2DM’s Graphene, and can be used to enhance the properties of many industrial materials such as paints & coatings, batteries, composites, polymers and lubricants.

“We are thrilled to welcome CBMM. The company brings decades of experience developing high value applications for its niobium products, a metal that can be used synergistically with our graphene in the development of new applications, such as anti-corrosion coatings and batteries for Electric Vehicles”, noted Patrick Teyssonneyre, CEO of 2DM.

“We found 2DM to be the perfect choice for us to share our expertise in materials technology and applications, market expansion and development of global customers. CBMM has an accumulated experience of more than 60 years developing technology and market for niobium products. CBMM and 2DM have complementary skills and knowledge to build a successful graphene history”, stated Ricardo Lima, Vice President of operations and technology of CBMM. “Furthermore, 2DM is also well advised by Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel prize in Physics and the first identifier of graphene, and by the National University of Singapore (NUS), a recognized center in advanced materials technologies.”
